Q&A with Bruce

When did your love for luxury watches start?

“My obsession with watches began from a young age, with one of my earliest memories being the first Casio I owned – a watch that sparked a life-long passion for timepieces that would later become my profession.”

What makes a luxury watch so special?

“Owning a luxury timepiece is not only a smart investment, as they often increase in value over time, but it also means that you are potentially purchasing an heirloom that can stay in your family throughout generations. A luxury watch is truly a special purchase, as the craftsmanship that goes into making them is impeccable.”

What’s been one of your highlights as Head of Luxury Watches?

“In 2019 I was part of an exclusive collaboration with TAG Heuer to design and roll out a series of limited-edition pieces to celebrate our centenary year. They were limited to 1,919 pieces in honour of our founding year, it was a very proud moment.”

What’s your favourite thing about working for Beaverbrooks?

“Where do I start? I think for me, away from my role, it’s the culture of the business. It’s just incredible and I feel so fortunate. All of us here know how unique and special Beaverbrooks is to work for and it’s no accident that we have won many accolades over the years.”

How do you choose which watch to wear every day?

“Depends on what I’m doing and what I’m wearing to be honest. If I’m more casual and it’s the weekend it would be a more rugged, sports looking watch. If I’m in meetings, maybe a dressy watch - particularly if I’m wearing a suit and shirt where you’ve got cuffs and need a slimline watch to go under. It really does vary and I like watches so it’s nice to not just wear the same watch every day!”

What’s next on your luxury watch wish list?

“The watches I wear are predominantly steel sports watches so I think probably a smarter leather strap dress watch, probably around 39-40mm. Dark dial, leather strap and quite sleek and slimline that you can wear for more formal occasions.”
