Diavik Diamond Mine
Located at the bottom of the Lac de Gras region of the Northwest Territories of Cananda, and about 200km south of the Arctic Circle, the Diavik diamond mine produces the most of Canada’s diamonds in terms of carat production. The Diavik mine was established after four diamond-bearing pipes, called kimberlite pipes, were found between 1994 and 1995.
Diamond production at Diavik mine commenced in 2003, and by 2023, it was estimated that 90 million carats of rough diamonds had been produced in the mine’s lifetime. Its annual yield reaches a staggering 6-7 million carats.
