A Brief History Of Jewellery
Throughout history and for as long as man has existed, jewellery of some shape or form has been used to adorn our clothes or bodies to symbolise everything from religion to superstition and perhaps most importantly, wealth. Whether worn as talismans to ward of evil spirits or as a crown to show ones status, Jewellery has always been associated with adornment.

Platinum
It is often thought that platinum is a relatively new metal compared to gold and silver and you may be surprised to hear that this is not the case. It has in fact been around since the dawn of time, it is just so much rarer than any other metal found.
Gold
Since the beginning of history. Gold has occurred as nuggets or grains in rocks, underground "veins" and in alluvial deposits, these are sediments of gold that have been deposited by a river or other form of running water.
Silver
Like gold, because of its high metallic lustre, silver has been used for the last 5,000 years to make high value objects to reflect the wealth and status of its owners. Silver is a very ductile and malleable metal which is slightly harder than gold in it's purest form. This makes it a great metal for jewellery making.
Palladium
Palladium is a metal which is a member of the Platinum group with many similarities to Platinum.
Diamonds
Beaverbrooks Diamonds are Specially handpicked for their beauty and brilliance, giving special value and worn by special people. This information is to provide you with some insight into the world of diamonds,
Pearls
Pearls are known as Organic gemstone’s because they are a product derived by an animal (Oyster or other shell fish such as muscle or clams). They are produced when an irritant gets into the oyster itself
Gemstones
There are many different types of gemstones available to purchase in today’s market; natural gemstones, synthetic and imitation.
Coloured Diamonds
It is often said, (by us included) that the best colour for a diamond is no colour and this is true when you are talking about “normal” white diamonds. The exception to this rule is that of natural fancy coloured diamonds.
Diamond shapes
The cut of a diamond is often confused with its shape. Diamonds are cut into various shapes depending on the original form of the uncut diamond, which is referred to as “rough”.
Materials
There are many new and innovative materials which are being used in jewellery today. Here are some of those exciting new materials which can be found in a selection of our jewellery and watches.

No Dirty Gold Here
The No Dirty Gold campaign asks the question “What is the real price of gold?” and focuses on the processes involved in certain types of mining which are having a devastating effect on the communities and environments in the mining areas.
Guide to water resistance
Water resistant is not the same as water proof. Water resistant means that water may in fact penetrate the housing of a watch but it shouldn’t harm it.
