A jewel in the high street since 1919
It was back in 1910 when the three Adlestone brothers, Isaac, Maurice and Harry took to the streets with no more than a suitcase full of silverware, loads of ambition and full of enthusiasm. I don't know if this actually qualified as a business although I’m sure the opening of their first store in Belfast during 1919 certainly did.
We believe it’s about how we spend our time in life, the memories we create of fun & laughter, of shared successes, of overcoming challenges and of caring for others. It is about learning new skills, challenging ourselves to do more, and making those dreams happen. It’s these things that enrich us.
Today we are very proud to be a well known name on the high street and in the business world for our integrity, passion and caring approach. With over 800 people and over 65 stores throughout the United Kingdom, not to mention our internet and mail order teams, we are working hard at Making it Special for our customers and our people, by creating wonderful experiences which in turn enrich peoples’ lives.
Direct descendants of our founders are still the custodians of Beaverbrooks, still family owned and always one big family.

Enriching Lives
We care about our people and our people care about others. It is part of the Beaverbrooks Way, it's what we do - we give to the Community.
Company Donations
Each year, We contribute 20% of our post-tax profits to organisations both in the UK and overseas. In 2009 we donated £592,369 to charity – a staggering figure of well over half a million which is something our people are very proud of.
We encourage our people to nominate organisations they are involved with for funding and during 2009 every team had the chance to pick a charity for them to give a donation of £50 per person to so together we gave over £37,250 to over 70 local charities chosen by our people.
It's so easy to give
We know lots of our colleagues want to donate to charity each month and we want to help them give even more. We offer a payroll giving scheme so our people can give to a charity of their choice direct from their wages each month.
All donations given in this way are tax free so each charity chosen receives your donation and the tax you would have paid on this amount plus Beaverbrooks matches the donation too!
31% of our people are in our payroll giving scheme (as at Jan 2010) and during 2009 we helped our people to donate an amazing £38,631 to their chosen charities.
Match Funding
We encourage our people to take part in fundraising activities and sponsored events nationwide. We match fund the money that our people raise for a registered charity, £1 pound for £1 pound. During 2009, our people raised £23,980 which the Company matched so together we raised £47,960!
Sponsored Events
Our people take part in lots of sponsored events each year – the Race for Life, Bike Rides, Midnight Walks and Marathons – the list goes on and on! We match fund the sponsorship they raise.
Beaverbrooks sponsors fundraising events throughout the year, the highlights of which are The Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10K Fun Run and the Beaverbrooks Windmills Bike Ride. Over 4,000 runners take part in the Fun Run each May along the Promenade in Blackpool and over 700 people cycle up to 45 miles around the beautiful Fylde countryside each June. Our people get involved in many ways – some do the Fun Run and Bike Ride, others help with the preparation, administration and marshalling so they really are Beaverbrooks team events!
Volunteering Time
We also encourage our people to assist local charities and organisations by giving them time paid by the Company to help out – in 2009 our people used 181 Company days volunteering. We help in a huge variety of ways – advising charities, helping charity shops with displays, recording newspapers for the blind, leading Scout groups, working in a Salvation Army soup kitchen, landscaping children's gardens & play areas – the list is endless! We are extremely proud of the work our people are doing enriching their own lives and the lives of people in their own communities.

The Beaverbrooks Way
We've spent a lot of time working on developing a greater understanding of our reasons why our business is here. We realised that Beaverbrooks' purpose is Enriching Lives, and we will ALWAYS put this first, never bending from it and always being driven by it, as it is what we stand for. We then worked out which values are really key to our business - Integrity, Passion & Caring.
We developed a list of Behaviours that everyone constantly works towards, giving people real clarity as to "how people are supposed to act around here." We brought the whole thing together under the banner of The Beaverbrooks Way, and every Beaverbrooks team member has their very own copy.
