A jewel in the high street since 1919

It was back in 1910 when the three Adlestone brothers, Isaac, Maurice and Harry took to the streets with no more than a suitcase full of silverware, loads of ambition and full of enthusiasm. I don't know if this actually qualified as a business although I’m sure the opening of their first store in Belfast during 1919 certainly did.

We believe it’s about how we spend our time in life, the memories we create of fun & laughter, of shared successes, of overcoming challenges and of caring for others. It is about learning new skills, challenging ourselves to do more, and making those dreams happen. It’s these things that enrich us.

Today we are very proud to be a well known name on the high street and in the business world for our integrity, passion and caring approach. With over 800 people and over 65 stores throughout the United Kingdom, not to mention our internet and mail order teams, we are working hard at Making it Special for our customers and our people, by creating wonderful experiences which in turn enrich peoples’ lives.

Direct descendants of our founders are still the custodians of Beaverbrooks, still family owned and always one big family.

Enriching Lives

We care about our people and our people care about others. We encourage our teams to take part in fundraising activities and sponsored events and match any fund money our people raise for a registered charity. In 2008, our people raised a fantastic £31,648 which we matched so together we raised £63,296 - well done everyone!

Each year, we contribute 20% of our post-tax profits to charity – during 2008 we gave £756,000 to charities both in the UK and overseas.

We want our people to help in their communities by giving their time to local organisations, charities and schools. We are able to support our people even more in this way by giving them extra work time to spend with people who need our help.

During 2008, all our people were given the chance to pick a registered charity to give a £100 donation to. Each team member picked a local charity to give their money to so last year we helped the Directors to give away £75,000.

The Beaverbrooks Way

We’ve spent a lot of time working on developing a greater understanding of our reasons why our business is here. We realised that Beaverbrooks' purpose is Enriching Lives, and we will ALWAYS put this first, never bending from it and always being driven by it, as it is what we stand for. We then worked out which values are really key to our business - Integrity, Passion & Caring.

We developed a list of Behaviours that everyone constantly works towards, giving people real clarity as to "how people are supposed to act around here." We brought the whole thing together under the banner of The Beaverbrooks Way, and every Beaverbrooks team member has their very own copy.
